Is ready to roll icing the same as fondant?
When handling ready to roll icing the first thing to tackle is what to call it. In the US it’s referred to as fondant and in the UK as sugarpaste, but essentially ready to roll is exactly the same pliable cake covering, which can also be molded into decorative shapes.

Can you put ready to roll icing in the fridge?
No, fondant does not need to be refrigerated. In fact, it should avoid any contact with your refrigerator. Leftover fondant should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. If you plan on covering a cake with fondant, make sure you don’t use any fillings that need to be refrigerated.
What can I do with leftover ready to roll icing?
To store the leftover icing first wrap it very tightly in a double layer of clingfilm (plastic wrap) then put it in a resealable plastic food bag and squeeze all of the air out of the bag.
Does ready roll icing go off?
Technically, yes, rolled fondant icing does expire and at some point it will go bad. Most fondants have a shelf life of 22 – 24 months. I will always prefer to use my fondant as freshly as possible, within the first 6 months of purchasing.
Can you use ready to roll icing for Modelling?
For basic modelling it’s great to use Ready to Roll Icing as it’s easy to shape, but if you want something that will set slightly firmer then you can try mixing one part Ready to Roll Icing to one part Flower and Modelling Paste. You can create some great cake toppers by doing this.

Does icing go bad in the fridge?
Store-bought frosting can last in the fridge for three to four weeks and in the freezer for two to three months. Homemade frosting will last up to a week in the fridge and about one month in the freezer. As always, watch for signs of spoiling, like a darker color, thicker texture or bad smell.
Should icing be refrigerated?
Always refrigerate any cake with a frosting that contains eggs or egg whites, or one that has whipped-cream frosting or any type of filling — be it whipped cream, custard, fruit or mousse. You won’t hurt a cake by refrigerating it, but the cold does dry it out.
How long does royal icing last in the fridge?
If you know you will be using it soon, you can place it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. If you aren’t planning on using it for a while, place that airtight container in the freezer for up to 6 months.
