Can you live on Dunk Island?
Currently, the only way to stay on Dunk Island is by camping, and with just eight camping sites, you’ll practically have the whole island to yourself. It’s the perfect place to pitch a tent if you’re into a rustic camping experience with a picture-perfect view and the beach at your doorstep.
Is there a cafe on Dunk Island?
The island’s fully licensed Cafe, located adjacent to the Jetty on the Dunk Island Spit, is open. The cafe serves ice cold drinks, tea and coffee, meals including fresh local seafood all served in the awesome laid back atmosphere of the campground.
Is there food on Dunk Island?
The campsites have BBQ facilities, hot showers and drinking water. We do recommend that you bring adequate food and water as the café on the island has limited operating hours. To reach Dunk island you will need to take a water taxi from Mission Beach at Wongaling Beach.

Mayfair 101 bought Dunk Island in September 2019 for $31.5m although it was in considerable disrepair after enduring two cyclones. It was not expected to sell this time around for anywhere near that price. Former owner Peter Bond bought Dunk Island in 2014 but redevelopment plans never went ahead.
Can you swim on Dunk Island?
The highlight of Dunk Island is the three hour walk to the highest point of the island, Mount Kootaloo for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding island and reef. Enjoy being on island time here as you take it easy and swim in the ocean, snorkel off the beach, set up a picnic or camp under the stars.
Can you go fishing on Dunk Island?
Local Islands like Dunk and Bedarra offer a Convenient Bounty. Whilst the reef has incredible numbers and variety of fish, a great many species can be caught close to some of the islands, and some large specimens can be caught. We’ve had clients catch anything from Spanish Mackerel to large GT’s around the islands.
Can you stay on Lindeman Island?
The resort on Lindeman Island is no longer operational, and a new island owner is currently planning the build of a luxury resort.
Is Brampton Island still operating?
Brampton Island could be home to a seven-star resort. Some of the legwork has already been completed for you, with Brampton Island being sold with development approvals in place until 2023 for a beachside resort and accommodation.
What happened to Great Keppel Island Resort?
The island’s resort closed two years later. The company had a development masterplan approved to turn it into a $600 million development, complete with golf courses, shops, a casino and marina.

Is Lindeman Island Open?
Lindeman Island is the most southerly group of islands in the Whitsundays just 35 km off the coast of Airlie Beach. Currently, the island is only open to day visitors and campers with very basic facilities on the island after the Club Med Resort closed in January 2012 due to damage from Cyclone Yasi.
