If you make a good impression during your term, you’ll have a major leg up compared to other graduates. I can personally attest that having AmeriCorps on your resume sets you apart. Committing to a term of service speaks highly of your character. It is something many employers will recognize, appreciate, and seek out.

Yes, it will look good, but like all other ECs which have been done millions of times over and over again, it will NOT SET YOU APART. It will NOT BE A GOLDEN TICKET INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL. With that said, I would only do Americorps if you are actually willing to and are passionate about doing this kind of service.

Is Americorps NCCC worth it?
NCCC was absolutely worth it for me. I grew a ton as a person and I had a great experience. Some of the time it wasn’t great while I was doing it, but looking back it challenged me to get out of my comfort zone and made me a better person in the long run.

Does AmeriCorps have an age limit?
The minimum age requirement for most programs is 18. However, some accept applications from 16-17-year-olds. While a few programs are designed specifically for young adults, the majority of our programs have no upper age limit.
What happens if you leave AmeriCorps early?
Members that exit early can be exited with full award, partial award, or without award depending on whether they served the minimum hours, fulfilled program requirements, experienced a compelling personal circumstance, etc. Early exit is not synonymous with an exit for cause/without award.
