What is Purdue Reading Day?
Purdue University approved establishing Wednesday, Nov. 4, as an optional Reading Day, giving instructors and students the chance for a brief respite from classes, and supporting the recommendation the University Senate passed during its meeting Monday (Oct. 19).

What does a typical college schedule look like?
A typical freshman in college at a 4 year university will be taking a full time load- anywhere from 12–14 credits a semester: that’s about 4–5 classes a semester. Classes are available in the morning early as 8am, or you can take a night class as late as 8pm (and they typically meet once a week for three hours).

Compared to high school, a typical college day is a lot less structured. Classes don’t happen on a set schedule, and each day can be different, depending on how you set up your schedule. Meals aren’t scheduled like they are in high school, and sometimes you’ll have class during lunch.
How many credit hours are too many?
Generally, one class can last anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 3 hours unlike a 45 minutes to a 1 hour high school class. Packing on too many classes in a semester can exhaust and stress you out to the point of illness. That’s why advisors suggest taking 12 to 15 credit hours per semester.
