Can you build muscle in space?
Due to the lack of gravity in space, astronauts experience a decrease in muscle mass and bone density. That same mass can take up to four years to build back up on Earth. To fight against this deterioration, astronauts have a very vigorous exercise regimen in space.
How do female astronauts pee in space?
To use it, astronauts sit around the hole just as we would on Earth, poop, wipe themselves and then put the wipe inside the hole. The same suction system that uses airflow to keep urine from flying out of the funnel also works to keep all of the “deposits” inside the toilet.

Do astronauts wash their clothes?
It is impossible to wash clothes on board the ISS ! The astronauts therefore wear their clothes until they are too dirty and then throw them out. All ISS waste burns up in the atmosphere on re-entry.
What happens to astronauts dirty clothes?
While astronauts wear spacesuits when working outside the International Space Station (ISS), they wear ordinary clothes most of the time. Once these are too dirty to be worn, they are then either returned to Earth as rubbish or ejected along with other waste in a capsule to burn up in the atmosphere.
Do astronauts use deodorant?
To stay clean, most astronauts request a Russian-made toiletry pouch among their personal items. The pouch includes toothpaste, a toothbrush and deodorant — enough to last six months, the typical stay aboard the station.

The astronauts wipe their body clean by using a wet towel, and wash their hair by using waterless shampoo. Since water does not flow in a zero-gravity environment, the astronauts cannot wash their hands under a faucet as you do on Earth. So, there are no sinks or showers inside the space shuttle.
Do astronauts smell bad?
Astronaut Thomas Jones said it “carries a distinct odor of ozone, a faint acrid smell…a little like gunpowder, sulfurous.” Tony Antonelli, another space-walker, said space “definitely has a smell that’s different than anything else.” A gentleman named Don Pettit was a bit more verbose on the topic: “Each time, when I …

What equipment is needed for space travel?
That includes food, clothing, mid-deck seats, flight tools, cameras, parachutes, safety equipment, sleep restraints and, most importantly, the astronaut spacesuits — known as “extravehicular mobility units.” Each spacesuit weighs over 200 pounds and is received in four pieces.
