Why do I hear overtones?
The technique is called overtone singing. The ear now lacks information from the familiar voice sound, and individual partial tones become so loud due to the double resonance that the brain separates the sounds and communicates them to the consciousness as two separate tones.

Does oVertone work better on clean or dirty hair?
For even brighter color results, apply oVertone conditioners to clean, dry hair. Without water molecules in the way, the hair cuticle can absorb more pigment. More pigment means more color!
Will my hair go back to blonde after oVertone?
The color doesn’t fade with time necessarily – just with shampooing. The more often you wash, the faster the color fades. Be sure to use high quality shampoo with NO sulfates, which are known to fade color. Try the Overtone Daily Conditioner to help keep the color vibrant between deep conditions.
Do you use shampoo after oVertone?
Step 1: In the shower, get your hair wet and if you are going to shampoo, do it first. Step 2: Apply oVertone Daily Conditioner liberally to your hair and distribute it evenly. Step 3: Leave on for 3-5 minutes. Step 4: Rinse with warm or hot water and repeat whenever you wash your hair!
Can you leave oVertone on too long?
We recommend that our Daily Conditioners stay in for about 3-5 minutes, and our Coloring Conditioners about 10-15 minutes. If you like to relax with color in your hair, you can leave it in as long as you like – no harm will come to your hair.
Can you leave oVertone on for an hour?
After a Certain point it won’t absorb more water/dye. With traditional dye leaving it on too long can cause damage but with overtone you are only wasting time and not risking damage. That said 15-20 min should be sufficient. You can do longer if you like but you will experience diminishing returns after a while.
Does oVertone daily conditioner add color?
It depends on the color of your hair. If you are just adding color on top of your natural color – yes. But remember, oVertone conditioners only deposit color. They don’t lift or lighten your hair, so if your roots grow in darker than the rest of your hair, you’ll still have to lighten them.
Is overtone better on wet or dry hair?
When applying, you can start with wet or dry hair (dry hair will give you a brighter result). Hot water actually helps our products work better by opening up your hair cuticle a little. After you rinse out oVertone, your hair should have soaked up most of the color, so the conditioner should rinse mostly clear.
Is overtone coloring conditioner permanent?
There is one tiny catch. Since it’s semi-permanent, Overtone color washes out fairly easy. It’s recommended to reapply the Coloring Conditioner once a week (or use the Daily Conditioner every day) for best results.
Do you need gloves for overtone daily conditioner?
These milder formulas will deposit just the right amount of color while moisturizing your hair and keeping it healthy. Some colors might stain your hands a little, so be sure to look for our “wear gloves” warning in the product description!
How many washes does overtone last?
The hair was washed with sulfate-free shampoo and as you can see, was still going strong after 20 washes.

Can you mix overtone with white conditioner?
That’s why it’s even more important than usual to apply a conditioner that works. However, mixing semi-permanent dye into white conditioner creates a bunch of issues that prevent your conditioner from working correctly. It’s basically like bleaching your hair and then deciding to stop using conditioner altogether.
Can you mix overtone with developer?
As long as it’s a direct dye, like pravana vivids, and not a color that is mixed with developer it’s completely safe. Back in the day that’s how I used to make pastel shades: got a big bowl of white conditioner and added color until the desired shade is achieved. In fact, that’s essentially what overtone is.
Can I make my own color depositing conditioner?
DIY color depositing conditioner Mix a ratio ½ conditioner with ½ hair dye. Again, it’s best to use white colored conditioner. I mixed mine with regular Suave but you can also mix it with a deep conditioning mask and apply it once a week for a dye boost and deep condition in one. Your hair will be so soft and silky.
Can I use conditioner instead of developer?
The short answer is NO. You can’t use conditioner instead of developer. If you want to avoid developer you can use semi-permanent dyes, which don’t contain ammonia and don’t need bleach to apply it. If you want to change your hair color, you can’t replace developer with a conditioner.

Can I add conditioner to developer?
Permanent hair contains chemicals that need the developer to create the reaction to make the color permanent. By adding conditioner, instead of developer, it won’t work. It might slightly stain the cuticle of your hair, but it will wash out when you shampoo your hair.
Should I use 20 or 30 volume developer?
For instance, if you have more than 50% gray hair, 20 volume developer is the only developer to use for 100% gray coverage and a long-lasting color. Choose a 30 volume developer when you want a developer that is stronger for a lighter and deeper color.
Can I dilute 40 vol with conditioner?
