Fold your way to relaxation

Rest periods are proven to improve your study and wellbeing. Here’s a tempting activity for today’s #studyhappy Library break…

Calling all stressed students (and procrastinators): origami is officially the best form of five-minute relaxation in the world. When your essay is swimming in front of you like an inky soup, or you realise that you’ve been reading your book upside down for half an hour, move away from your studies and relax with some simple origami…By Charlotte Salter.

Why is origami such a good stress-buster?

  1. Occupying your mind with something new for five minutes will allow you to go back to your work feeling refreshed
  2. It’s a great way to get rid of those used post-it notes littering your desk without filling up your rubbish bin
  3. You’re doing something different with your hands, rather than typing, and you’re engaging different parts of you brain – a good way to wake up!
  4. You look super-talented and your friends will love all the little origami presents you keep giving them.

 How do I do it?

Origami is generally easier than it looks; all you need are some clear instructions and a bit of paper that can be torn into a square. From butterflies to penguins, t-shirts to dragonflies, you’ll find pretty much anything you feel like making on the internet.

Try it out…Fold your way to relaxation

Here are a couple of good ones to get you started, from easiest to hardest:

Lucky Stars

Secret Note

Traditional Crane

So put your book down, stretch out, and make one of those lucky stars. Who knows, maybe they really will boost your luck in getting those marks…
