How do you take orthodontic bands off?
Dealing With Loose Orthodontic Bands
- Lift the loose band off your tooth with your fingers or a clean pair of tweezers.
- Ask someone to remove the band for you by using the handle-end of a toothbrush or a clean pair of tweezers to lift the band from the tooth.
What happens if my molar band is loose?
Unlike a loose orthodontic bracket that stays attached to the wire when it becomes loose, a loose orthodontic band can lift off the tooth very easily because it is not generally attached to the archwire with an elastic or wire ligature. If the band comes off the tooth, you could swallow it or choke on it.
What do I do if my molar band comes off?
If a band has come loose off of a molar tooth, push the band back onto the tooth and avoid chewing on that side. Please call the office the next business day for an appointment. It is normal for a space to open up between the upper front teeth (it will soon close up).
How long will molar bands hurt?
Some people, however, do experience some pressure or pinching during the process. Also, you might have some soreness around your teeth or gums a few hours after getting a molar band. This discomfort is temporary and will subside with time.
Do molar bands hurt your tongue?

Do elastics move teeth?
The elastics are very strong and can move the teeth faster and more efficiently than braces without elastics. When worn correctly, they can greatly shorten treatment time. In some cases, elastics do not need to be worn all day.
How many hours a day should you wear elastics?
Your rubber bands should be worn approximately 20 hours each day, so that means you have to wear them when you’re sleeping too!
