Is changing Tail Lights Illegal?
Answer: A tail light inspection is not part of the smog check in California. You may pass the smog inspection even if your vehicle’s tail lights are inoperable. Obviously we don’t recommend driving without properly functioning tail lamps, but none the less, they will not cause you to fail the smog test.
Are smoked tail lights DOT approved?
