Where is the heater control valve?
The heater control valve is a cooling and hvac system component that is commonly found on many road going cars and trucks. The heater control valve is typically mounted near the firewall, and acts as the valve that allows coolant to flow from the engine to the heater core, which is located inside of the vehicle.
How can you tell if a heater control valve is plugged?
Here are some of the warning signs of a bad heater control valve:
- No heat comes out.
- Heat is always on and you can’t turn it down.
- Heater operates erratically, putting out more or less heat without any control changes.
- Coolant leaks.
- Low coolant level.
- Higher-than-normal temperature gauge readings (from loss of coolant)
How does a heater bypass valve work?
When you turn the heat on, it opens a valve in the heater core that allows the coolant to cycle through it that has been warmed up by your engine. A blend door in the heater core allows air flow from outside to blow the warm air into your vehicle or defog your windows as a result.
Why is the heat in my car going in and out?
A heater can stop working for a number of reasons, including: A low antifreeze/water level in the radiator due to a leak in the cooling system. A bad thermostat that isn’t allowing the engine to properly warm up. A blower fan that isn’t working properly.
What temperature should the air be coming out of the vent?
The air coming out should be 14 to 20 degrees cooler than the air flowing in. Move the thermometer to a vent in each room or area of your home. If any of the vents are much colder or warmer than another, there may be a problem with the ductwork, or the distance may be too great from the blower.
How do you know if your heater is working?
On gas heating systems the burner flame should be a bright blue color. A furnace warning sign is a flickering or yellowish looking flame. This is an indication that the gas is not burning completely. It is also an indicator that your heating system may be producing a higher than normal level of carbon monoxide.
