What mallets are used on marimba?
Marimba mallets usually employ a yarn wrapping over a hard plastic core, and some include latex covering underneath the yarn. Most will use birch shafts, as birch is most apt for the techniques used for the majority of today’s solo literature.
What vibraphone mallets should I get?
Vibraphone. For vibraphone, I recommend cord mallets. While yarn marimba mallets would produce a good sound from the vibraphone, the metal bars will damage the yarn and lessen the articulation. For band and ensemble playing, a hard cord mallet is my go-to vibraphone option.
