FUNDED BY THE MINISTRY OF ECONOMY AND COMPETITIVENESS

On the occasion of the completion of the research project social Identities the Basic and Economic Crisis in December of this year, the research Team of the project has organized three research seminars that will be presented and discussed some of the main results of the project that affect the development of the urban life of large cities.

The three aspects that are going to discuss are: The place occupied by the activities of leisure in urban life; the urban development that has occurred in Madrid; and, how individuals manage their identities in economic, political, social, cultural, and territorial conventional urban life to post-industrial.

These three themes have emerged during the research as the central aspects for the understanding of our central theme of study: how social identities are managed in a time of strong economic crisis in some of the outlying towns of Major Metropolitan Area of Madrid.

The first is critical because it involves the possibility of decentering the study of the social consciousness and the self-identity of its two main anchors for Modernity: work and family, to discover the individual-subject who chooses and builds their self-awareness and social awareness in the private relationship with the other in addition to in those previous social spaces. Although, we may also discover that these modern networks can redefine and transform to remain central in the new era.

The second brings us closer to the great structural change that has occurred in the urban environment during the last quarter of a century, under the pressure of globalization urban for their immersion in the global economic model dominant. And, the challenges this imposes upon the citizenship emerging. The case of Madrid, we will illustrate the solution to neo-liberal to the challenge and the dangers it holds.

And, the third will be a session that will serve to present publicly the main contribution of this project: the method of HIL/SIL (Lens of identification Social). This is a method developed by professor Villalon to study how individuals manage all of their social identities. Lets analyze them in such a way that we understand them in relationship with the other features of a conventional identification and so located and historical. You can study by collecting data through random sampling and interviews focused on the problem. Whose data can be subsequently matematizados in forms matrix that allow the graphical representation of the so-called “Lens of identification social” of each individual, as well as the statistical analysis of an indeterminate number of variables that correspond to the cells of the array of data that is created. This method is based on a conception of identification social which is presented as an alternative to the perspectives, narratives and the categorical simple that are currently used in surveys to study the management of social identities that individuals do. Collects some of the aspects of both perspectives that seem the most accurate and valid for the social research and elaborates on the characteristics of situational, historical, and environmental forms of identification social discovered by studies from the field of Social Anthropology and also Social Psychology.

For the discussion of these three topics have been provided for three sessions which will take place the days 15, 16 and 17 December at the UNED in Madrid:
