The“Divided Society” of José Felix Tezanos

“La Sociedad Dividida” de José Félix TezanosEach time we find ourselves more immersed in a social transition unparalleled, comparable only to the one that took place when traditional, agrarian societies became societies of industrial capitalists. We are, according to José Félix Tezanos (Professor of Sociology at the UNED), before the technological revolution whose consequences are still quite uncertain, are outlined with more intensity and faster than the industrial revolution. This is noticeable in the extent that every time more people show an increasing degree of concern for the social change that we are going to hold for the foreseeable future.

The development of new production systems, such as the growing introduction of robots and automated systems, is becoming in new specific forms of inequality. In turn, these are shaping up different systems of social stratification. The new models of the factor occupational allow a growing dualización of the society and the emergence of new groups in the lower parts of the pyramid estratificacional, that come to be known as “infraclases” or “excluded”. These processes are closely related to the economic development and the new structures of power.

While the new forms of stratification are connected by multiple factors (fiscal crisis, regression of the Welfare State, new technologies, globalization, structural unemployment of long duration, precarious labor, migration, inequality, and redefinition of the functional family, new cultural elements, etc), these cannot be understood with the classical sociological theories. To study the new forms of inequality or social exclusion, are necessary new analytical perspectives.
