Is skydiving into water safe?
Intentional water jumps are preplanned jumps into a body of water. With a few additional precautions, a water jump can be the easiest and safest of all skydives. Physical injuries and drownings are almost unknown on preplanned, intentional water landings.
Why is it bad to skydive into water?
The main problem is that it is very hard to shove a body’s volume (and then some) worth of water out of the way, which results in a very fast deceleration. Because no matter what you land on, you’ll probably wind up injured and likely unconscious. If you’re injured and unconscious in deeper water, you’ll drown.
Do parachutes float in water?
The parachute itself is about neutrally buoyant. You do NOT want it to land on top of you in the water. It will have a tendency to float a foot or two UNDER the surface.
Can you jump with a wet parachute?
If the container soaks in water for any length of time, it will have to be dried before it can be repacked, meaning you can’t jump it again for awhile. And if the reserve container gets soaked, there’s a reserve inspection and repack in your future and that rig is down for even longer.

Can you skydive in the snow?
Yes, you CAN skydive in winter, and ENJOY it too! We jump at Skydive Cross Keys all year round, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t try it at least once. So WHY jump in the cold? There is some preparation necessary though to keep you safe and comfortable in the cold.
