Oban’s Myths & Legends Many people have asked me on my travels, what is the difference between a myth, legend, fable and folk tales? Myths, legends and fables are old stories written for adults and children. Folk or fairy tales were written specially for children.
What is the difference between legends and myths?
A legend contains some facts and becomes exaggerated to the point that real people or events take on a “larger than life” quality. In contrast, a myth isn’t based on fact, but is symbolic storytelling that was never based on fact.
