Why is my crowned tooth sensitive to hot and cold?

If your crowned tooth begins to have sensitivity to hot, cold, and/or air, it could be because the gums around the tooth have receded with time, exposing part of the root. Forceful tooth brushing could lead to gum recession. Gums that start to recede are more susceptible to plaque buildup and can lead to gum infection.

How long does cold sensitivity last after Crown?

While crown sensitivity to cold liquids can happen, it should only occur for a few weeks after you receive your crown. If you are experiencing it for more than few weeks, it’s a good idea to visit the dentist. They will likely adjust your crown and resolve the problem.

Can a dentist remove a cemented crown?

The crown is gently moved until the adhesive seal is broken. The weak cement releases as the crown is pried and removed from the tooth. Definitively cast and cemented crowns however are more challenging to remove. There are different mechanisms available to the doctor to remove a failed crown.

Can a permanent crown be taken off?

Why does my crown hurt 6 months later?

Initially, this may be a mere annoyance, but as you put excess pressure on your tooth again and again, it may become traumatized and begin to hurt. It’s also possible for an infection to form under the crown months or years after having it put on, which may cause inflammation and a misaligned bite as a result.
