What NZ birds call at night?

What do water hens look like?
Moorhens are blackish with a red and yellow beak and long, green legs. Seen closer-up, they have a dark brown back and wings and a more bluish-black belly, with white stripes on the flanks.
What is the food of water hen?
They mainly eat insects (large numbers of beetles have been recorded), small fish (which are often carefully washed in water), aquatic invertebrates and grains or seeds such as those of Pithecolobium dulce.

So, steer clear of the medicated feed bags and you’ll be good. The medication is for coccidiosis, which ducks are pretty resistant to, by the way.
What do you do if you find baby ducks?
Place him in a large cardboard box or plastic tub. Leave the top off for ventilation and line the bottom with paper towels, not newspaper, for traction. Ducklings need to be kept warm; placing a desktop lamp, or 75 watt light bulb, over one corner of the box should provide adequate heat.
