The general rule for a legal catch requires a receiver to control the ball “with his hands or arms before the ball touches the ground,” according to the 2013-14 NCAA football rules book. If the football hits the field at any time before the receiver secures possession of the ball, the pass will be ruled incomplete.
Why do setters jump set?
The skill of jump setting allows the setter to deliver the ball quicker to these players and at a better trajectory for attacking. Many younger setters, or older less talented setters, will use their legs to push the ball to the target; this use of the legs to push tends to slow down the hand release on the volleyball.

Always jump set when you have the opportunity to do so. If the setter is constantly jumping when they set then as the defense you never know what is going to happen. The setter could fake setting and just hit it over on the second ball and catch every one off guard.
Do all college setters jump set?
All setters at a high level jump set, for youth competition right up to professional. This does several things: first of all, since the level of play is higher, standing sets would slow down the attacking team’s offense and give the blockers more time to reach the opposing hitter.
How tall should a libero be?
