What does a ICM module do?

What does a ICM module do?

What exactly is an (ICM) Ignition Control Module? An ICM is nothing more than a switch that turns the ignition system “On” or “Off”. The ignition control module must control the timing of the spark so that it is able to occur exactly at the right cylinder and the perfect moment.

How do you test a Ford ICM?

How to Test an Ignition Control Module

  1. Remove one plug wire at the spark plug and insert an old spark plug into the end of the plug boot.
  2. Check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on.
  3. Locate the ignition module positive (+) wire.
  4. Locate the ignition module negative (-) wire.

How does TFI ignition work?

the purpose of a TFI module is to control the spark output of the ignition system. A signal is sent from the TFI to the ECU, where the ECU processes the received signal and correspondingly outputs the correct spark control for engine timing (advance/retard).

What is a spout connector?

The purpose of the spout connector is to complete the circuit to the distributor to allow the PCM to have timing control. You remove the spout connector to disable PCM timing control so you can sccurately set your base timing by twisting the distributor and using a timing light.

What is spout signal?

The green signal is called SPOUT, short for SPark OUTput. The computer receives the PIP signal, modifies the timing of this signal to reflect the ignition advance timing it wants the coil to fire at, and sends this modified signal back to the ignition module.

What is a TFI code?

Trauma & Family Integration (TFI) has established Codes of Ethics to guide the actions of consultant/Leadership team, treatment of those receiving services, business/financial practices, and marketing.

What is a PIP sensor?

The PIP is a Hall Effect magnetic sensor that triggers the TFI and injectors. There is a shutter wheel alternately covers and uncovers a fixed magnet as it rotates. The change in the magnetic field triggers the sensor. The PIP sensor is mounted in the bottom of the distributor under the shutter wheel.

How do you check a Ford distributor pickup coil?

For the pick up coil (magnetic pick up assembly), connect your ohmmeter between the orange and purple wires. Resistance should be 400-800 ohms. Next, connect the ohmmeter between the black wire and a good ground on the engine. Operate the vacuum advance either by hand or with an external vacuum source.
