Can you drive with bad shifter bushings?

Can you drive with bad shifter bushings?

Synchros help the transmission smoothly shift from one gear to the next. A worn synchronizer can also cause the transmission to jump into neutral after you shift into gear. This can be a dangerous problem when you’re out on the road. It could also cause the transmission to get stuck in one gear or be hard to shift.

Can I use brake cables as shifter cables?

That being said, if you are only using a short length of brake cable housing in your run of mostly shifter cable housing with an indexed system, you should be fine. If you run into problems you could always replace it with the proper housing later on. However, it will not be operating “as designed”.

Can you use gear cable for brakes?

in short, yes. Brake cable outers are compressible to a small degree when curved (the wire in the outer is wound like a spring). If you use one for indexed gears, the cable pull could vary slightly as the outer compresses across a curve in it’s route.

Can I use brake cable for shifter?

There are two basic types of cables; brake and shifter. Brake cables are thicker, typically 1.5/1.6mm in diameter. A Shimano cable head is slightly larger than a Campy head so it may not fit into a Campy shifter.

Are SRAM and Shimano shifter cables the same?

Shimano designed their housing to be used with their polymer-coated cables and SRAM has a similar system. We will put a small dab of grease on the cable head as it goes into the shifter to prevent any binding at the cable head, but nothing in the housing or on the cable itself.

Are Jagwire cables any good?

Jagwire also is apparently really good, since a local bike builder highly recommends them and puts them on all his builds. Have them on my other bike, but don’t ride that bike at all so can’t really testify. Another option that I’ve been sold on is the Yokozuna Reaction cable system.

Are Jagwire cables better than Shimano?

Jagwire shift housing is the same dia as Shimano etc. Their Pro brake housing is a bit thicker and a lot stiffer due to be compressionless. Shimano SP41 housing and Optislick cables are very good.

Are expensive shifter cables worth it?

The kit comes with enough outer to do the rear and two inner cables. The difference is monumental, supper slick shifting and much more protection from the current elements. They come is different colours as do the jagwire kits. So are expensive gear cable kits worth it – the answer is most definitely yes.
