Why you support or oppose greatly increased use of genetically modified food?
Those in favor of genetically modified food production would most likely say that one of the main benefits is that it can eliminate undesired foods that are produced. Through gene splicing and the removal of undesired traits in foods, all of the genetically modified foods that are produced will not go to waste.
Do you support or oppose increasing the use of a genetically modified food production and B organic perennial polyculture?
I support greatly the increased use of both genetically modified food and organic polyculture. Although the genetic modification of organisms is normally seen as a way of encouraging population increase of a given species, its advantages have outdone the population increase disadvantage.
How can genetic engineering benefit the food industry?
Some benefits of genetic engineering in agriculture are increased crop yields, reduced costs for food or drug production, reduced need for pesticides, enhanced nutrient composition and food quality, resistance to pests and disease, greater food security, and medical benefits to the world’s growing population.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of genetically modified organisms?
The pros of GMO crops are that they may contain more nutrients, are grown with fewer pesticides, and are usually cheaper than their non-GMO counterparts. The cons of GMO foods are that they may cause allergic reactions because of their altered DNA and they may increase antibiotic resistance.
What are the advantages of genetically modified foods?
The possible benefits of genetic engineering include:
- More nutritious food.
- Tastier food.
- Disease- and drought-resistant plants that require fewer environmental resources (such as water and fertilizer)
- Less use of pesticides.
- Increased supply of food with reduced cost and longer shelf life.
- Faster growing plants and animals.
Is the use of GMOs for the better or worse?
According to the NIH, the health effects of pesticides are still not well understood [1]. Potential effects include cancer and damage to the nervous, endocrine, and reproductive systems. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are often engineered to be more resistant to pesticides or produce pesticides themselves.
What are the impacts of GMO on food quality and quantity?
GM crops could contribute to food production increases and higher food availability. There may also be impacts on food quality and nutrient composition. Finally, growing GM crops may influence farmers’ income and thus their economic access to food.
