How do you determine who takes the first shot on a hole?
When starting a hole, generally the player with the lowest score on the previous hole plays first. After starting a hole, the ball farthest from the hole is usually played first.
Can you switch balls on the green?
You can always use a new ball when starting a hole. Unless the one-ball Local Rule is in effect, the substituted ball could be any brand. On the putting green however, when you mark and lift your ball, you must replace that same ball to finish out the hole.
Do you have to mark your ball on the putting green?
It is necessary in golf to mark your ball once it is on the green in order to allow players further away to putt. If players did not mark their golf balls, then other players might hit the ball with their ball when they putt.
Can I clean my ball in the rough?
When you lift your ball from anywhere else it may always be cleaned except when you lift it: To see if it is cut or cracked – cleaning is not allowed. To identify it – cleaning is allowed only as needed to identify it. Because it interferes with play – cleaning is not allowed.
Are there rules for putting?
The line of putt must not be touched, except to remove loose impediments, lifting or replacing the ball, repairing a ball mark (old or your own) or removing movable obstructions. The player can place the club down in front of the ball when addressing, but may not press anything down.
Is it legal to push a putt?
The push putt is an illegal stroke for putting. To be legal there must be a backswing… It is legal however if you add in a short backswing and then visualize pushing the ball into the hole. Use a slow compact back stroke and then push the ball on your chosen line.
