Where do button quail come from?
The most widely distributed species is the striped button quail, or Andalusian hemipode (Turnix sylvatica). It occurs in southern Spain, Africa, and southeastern Asia to the Philippines. The red-backed button quail (T. maculosa) is its counterpart in the Australo-Papuan region.
Are button quail the same as Coturnix quail?
The Chinese blue-breasted Quail is a common species of quail that is also known as “button quail.” Their scientific name is Coturnix chinensis. This little quail was the one I admired as a child.

They need to be kept with non-aggressive birds. Button quails are quite hard to tame if you didn’t get them at a young age; we will advise you to get the hatching eggs and raise them yourself. If they are imprinted on you, they will always like to follow you around like dogs.
How many button quail can you keep together?
3-4 male/female pairs in a larger enclosure (say 3′ X 8′ floor space or larger) with lots of hiding places and enrichment activities. Keeping only 2 male/female pairs often result in aggression as one male will try to chase off the other male and dominate both females.
Can quail eat oranges?
