What are the symbols on the dreidel?
Each side of the dreidel bears a letter of the Hebrew alphabet: נ (nun), ג (gimel), ה (hei), ש (shin).
How do you play dreidel rules?
Players take turns spinning the dreidel; the player with the highest spin has first turn. (Nun is highest, then Gimmel, Hey, and Shin.) If there is a tie, the two who tied spin again….The game ends as soon as one of the following occurs:
- The sun comes up.
- All the latkes are gone.
- The players decide they have had enough.
How many tokens do you start with in dreidel?
1. Give each player an equal amount of tokens (10 to 15) to start. You can use coins, nuts, buttons or any small object.

Put some flour on a clean working surface. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. To craft the three-dimensional dreidel, begin by making a 4” ball from the dough. The bottom of the dreidel must come to a point and the top should be narrow enough to be held easily.

All you need is a 3 inch square of thin cardboard (reusing a cereal box is perfect). Divide into equal triangles, print the Hebrew letters in the triangles and poke a short pencil through the middle. You can see above that I wrote the letters on a piece of paper first so my son could copy them. That’s it!
