Are caliper bolts universal?
Since all brake calipers are unique to each manufacturer, and often made from different materials, there is no universal torque pressure setting for brake calipers. Even they make mistakes when it comes to installing brake caliper bolts.
How tight should caliper bolts be?
Snug is fine. Caliper bolts are loaded in SHEAR, which means a force they experience is trying to cut them off as if they were being decapitated. The tightness of the bolt IS important, but not as important as the strength of the bolt to resist the shear forces.
Should you grease caliper pins?
Before we re-insert the caliper guide pins into the caliper housing, they need to be properly lubricated. But remember, it’s always best to check your vehicle’s service manual before doing this kind of work. You’re going to need some high-temperature grease. They should slide right in if you used enough grease.
Can I use marine grease on brake calipers?
No. If the grease has moly in it then it should work fine. I use valvoline semi-syn grease for bearings and brake contact points myself. As said don’t grease up the bolts.
Can you use high temp grease on caliper pins?
Use special grease for ceramic brake pad assemblies But they don’t dissipate heat as well, and that high heat can degrade the grease in caliper and pad slides. So it’s critical that you use synthetic high-temp brake pad grease to lubricate the caliper pins, pad abutments and pad slide hardware.
What is the difference between brake grease and regular grease?
Brake lubricants are specially-formulated products that are not the same as ordinary chassis grease or even multi-purpose grease. The kind of grease that’s used to lube tie rod ends, ball joints and U-joints is not the same as the lubricants that are required for brake system components.
Can you use multi-purpose grease for brakes?
That’s why high-temperature synthetic brake grease with a high solids (moly)is recommended for lubricating critical brake components. Another reason for not using ordinary chassis grease or multi-purpose grease on brake components is because these products are usually petroleum-based.
Can you use multi Duty complex grease for brakes?
It will work. Not ideal, but better than nothing. It would be better to just run to AutoZone and grab a tub of actual brake grease, it’ll last you forever.
