(KUTV) — Deseret Industries are opening their doors again since closing on March 17, 2020. The nonprofit work-training business owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is reopening some of its stores beginning this week, such as the store in St. George.
What will Deseret Industries not accept?
We cannot accept the following items:
- Food includes any item that is eaten.
- Drugs include any item used as a medication.
- Examples: Fresh, packaged, or canned foods; food storage; drinks; candy; alcoholic beverages; tobacco, prescription drugs; and over-the-counter medication.
Is Goodwill accepting donations in Utah?
Many Utah locals’ first instinct when donating used items is to head for Deseret Industries. But “Goodwill” stores serve the same purpose and help the community in similar ways. They accept donations Monday through Saturday from 10am- 5pm and Sundays from 11am-4pm.
Where does Deseret Industries money go?
Some of the donated goods are given to people in the community upon recommendation of the church’s local bishop, in the event of a disaster such as a fire or flood. Any revenues that exceed expenses is used to support other LDS Church welfare organizations and programs throughout the world.

The DI encourages donations of “gently used” clothing, but clothing that does come in with stains or tears is used. It’s cleaned then shredded and used to stuff blankets and pillows at the LDS church’s humanitarian center.
