Are there any 128-bit processors?
While there are currently no mainstream general-purpose processors built to operate on 128-bit integers or addresses, a number of processors do have specialized ways to operate on 128-bit chunks of data.
Why are there no 128-bit processors?
The move from 16-bits to 32-bits, and again from 32-bits to 64-bits, was driven by the need for memory addressing, not numeric computation. Several folks have pointed that out too, but then they imply that you’d “never” need more than 64-bits for memory addressing so there will “never” be a 128-bit computer.
