Can Planaria survive in saltwater?
Planaria are common to many parts of the world, living in both saltwater and freshwater ponds and rivers. Some species are terrestrial and are found under logs, in or on the soil, and on plants in humid areas.
How does Planaria respond to its environment?
Some species even live on land. Many planarians have structures called eyespots in their anterior (head) region, which detect light. Planarians can sense and respond to chemical stimuli in their environment by using chemoreceptors mainly localized on the sides of their bodies (auricles).

Some people recommend killing them with boiling water or freezing them and disposing them in the trash. It’s important to note that, although it may be tempting, avoid crushing the planaria by hand because since they are asexual, they can reproduce when cut into pieces, which is truly the thing of nightmares!

Regeneration in planaria can be influenced by a number of factors including chemical, temperature, and seasonal factors. Flatworms are used as a classic model of regeneration and stem cell biology and help gain information about functioning of stem cells in all animals (Reddien et al. 2005).
How does caffeine affect regeneration?
The study showed that the highest dosage of caffeine accelerated the regeneration rate of the planaria in comparison to the lower dosage and control. The planaria treated with the lower caffeine dosage also regenerated in less time than the control specimen.

Can we see Planaria?
Yes we can observe a Planaria (flatworm) in naked eyes. It can be recognised with a leaf like body and internal organs are visible (translucent).
What happens if you eat Planaria?
While Planaria are not dangerous to the fish, the conditions that allow Planaria to thrive can be fatal to the fish with long-term exposure. As excess fish food decomposes, it releases ammonia into the water, which can also cause a rise in nitrate levels.
