Do French horns use valve oil?
THE VALVES Use plenty of oil — you can’t “over-oil” a valve. Finally, place a drop oil on the bottom side of the valve near the string — right in the crack between the rotor stop arm and the main body of the valve. DO NOT use ANY OIL unless it is designed especially for valve instruments.
How often should you clean your horn?
You should use a cleaning cloth and wipe water stains off the outside a few times a week. When it comes to the inside of your trumpet, it depends on how much you practice, but a good rule of thumb is that you should wash your trumpet at least once every 6 weeks.
What happens if you don’t clean your trumpet?
If you don’t grease the slides of your trumpet, the mineral deposits found in saliva will weld the tubes together. This can lead to an expensive repair. Also referred to as “stuck slides”, if you allow your trumpet to dry out all you’ll be left with are the deposits.
Is it bad to not clean your trumpet?
Failing to clean your trumpet regularly is bad for you, and it’s also bad for your instrument. Oil from your hands or water that is not wiped off can cause stains and being exposed to air causes brass instruments to tarnish.
Can you clean the inside of a trumpet?
Gently immerse the trumpet, the slides, the bottom valve caps, and your mouthpiece. Put some of the soapy water in a glass and immerse the valves, keeping the felts dry. Use the snake to clean the insides of the tuning slide and the valve slides.
