Is MSC owned by Unilever?
Fisheries that meet the MSC Standard may use the MSC logo on their products. These fisheries are audited every year, with a full reassessment every five years. Originally established by Unilever and WWF, the MSC became an independent non-profit organisation in 1999.
Who funds the MSC?
Another 24 percent of the MSC’s income is derived from donations from charitable organizations, such as the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Walton Family Foundation, WWF and others. In all, the MSC received charitable funding from more than 25 foundations, NGOs and corporations, according to its latest report.

We also generate income through charitable activities and investments. Most of this funding comes from the logo licensing fee paid by brands, retailers and food service organisations which choose to use the blue MSC label on consumer-facing products.
