How did Karana get the dogs to come out of the cave?
Karana’s plan to take out the pack is pretty simple: she’ll light a fire at the mouth of their cave and wait with her bow to shoot the dogs as they come out. The dogs don’t come out until after the fire goes out, though, and they come out slowly.
What happens between Karana and the dog at the end of the selection?

Chowig represents the male leadership (patriarchal order) of the village. He negotiates for his people with the Aleuts. As he tells his daughter, he believes the Aleuts are incapable of friendship (2.7), and soon he gets killed by the Russian men.
Who is Nanko?
Nanko. A young man of the tribe that Karana’s sister, Ulape, has a crush on. Nanko thought he saw Ramo board the boat the day Ramo and Karana are left behind, but is mistaken.
