How do I identify a GM 4L80e transmission?
With all GM longitudinal transmissions, it is far and away easiest to identify them by the amount of bolts on the transmission pan. Only the TH350 and TH400 share the same number of bolts. So if you count the bolts and get 17 you can be sure that you have identified the 4L80E transmission.

Will a 98 4L60E fit a 2001?
No they will not interchange. The input shaft pump and converter are different. Internal parts will interchange. You will need 96-early 99 model That is old body style.
Will a LS motor bolt to a 4L60E?
Most 5.3’s came with a 4l60e behind them, so YES, they fit. Look for one from the “LS years” meaning 2000+ which will have all the correct bell housing bolt holes. You need to find a 2wd tranny as well, otherwise the tail shaft will have to be swapped out to work. Visit BR3W CITY’s homepage!
Will a 98 4L60E fit a 96?
The only difference we have found in the two is that 98 has a full bell housing and the 96 has a half bell housing. And also the 96 has 4 bolts to the transmission and the 98 has six to the transmission but we do have a adapter.
Will a 4L60E bolt a 305?
if you got the torque converter with the 4l60e, and it was behind a 4.3 ltr , keep the torque converter, it will work great behind the stock 305. stock 305’s (88-95 trucks) that came with a 700r4 had a 1350 rpm stall converter with lock up.
Will a 700R4 hold up to a 454?
Yeah a stock 454 won’t kill a stock 700r4 unless you’re planning on towing with it or hot rodding the 454 some day. Once you upgrade something though you’ll have a hard time with the weak parts like planetary, power band, output shaft. All of those should be upgraded if towing or building the engine are in your future.
