How do you change the pitch on a flute?
Pull the head joint out to lower pitch and push the head joint in to raise pitch. To adjust the pitch of a flute, adjust the position of the head joint. Remember that larger instruments (like the tuba) are lower in pitch, so to lower the pitch on the flute, make it longer (larger) by pulling the head joint out.

Can’t get a sound out of my flute?
If your blowing produces no sound, check your bottom lip to make sure you’re not unconsciously pulling it up. Rotate the flute to change the angle at which your breath hits the blowing edge. Also, trying varying the shape and pressure of your blowing, and how far your bottom lip extends over the hole.
Why does my flute sound weird?
Possibly: your lips have drifted, and are in a different place than when your tone was great. Pay attention also to where you place the flute on your chin: placing the flute’s lip plate either too high, or too low, or not flush with the skin of the chin, can cause you to sound different every time you play.
