Should you play Halo in order?
I’d suggest just playing them in release order, which is: Play in order of release date. That’s the way the franchise is meant to be played. If it weren’t so jarring to go from Reach to CE I would say do them in chronological order, but since that’s the case I would recommend release order.
Are ODST better than Spartans?
As much as I love the ODSTs, Spartans are just far superior in training, armor, augmentations, etc. It’s not really much of a contest. If you went by gameplay (ODST : Halo Trilogy) then maybe the ODSTs would have a fighting chance. But, canonically, not even a question.
