Should you oil the inside of a gun barrel?
Do not lubricate the bore using gun oil! For long term storage only, the bore can be treated with a heavier lubricant such as Barricade (or equivalent). This must be removed by cleaning the barrel prior to shooting the firearm! Clean the exterior of the barrel, barrel hood, barrel lug, and the feed ramp.
Is 30 year old ammo still good?
30 years is nothing for modern ammo if properly stored. Ammo won’t last forever, the powder and primer will eventually degrade, but if properly stored, you can avert that degradation for many, many years. If they were stored in their box in a sealed ammo can for 30 years, then there’s no question they’re probably good.
Is 50 year old ammunition still good?
After my experience of shooting thousands of different rounds more than 50 years old, I would advise you not to “dispose” of any old ammo. As long as it has been kept dry and isn’t corroded, it will probably fire. Older ammunition will probably fire, but don’t bet your life on it.
Does ammo go bad with age?
Ammunition doesn’t “expire” per se, but the gunpowder looses potency over time. The largest risk to shooting old ammunition isn’t a failure to fire, it’s the risk that you will actually fire the shot and it doesn’t have enough momentum to make it out the barrel.
Is #6 shot good for home defense?
6 shot should get it done fine. Personally i like 4 shot better for home defense. More power, but not so much as to have to worry about over penetration. If you feel safer with 6 shot then by all means, load your gun with 6 shot.
Can a 9mm kill a grizzly bear?
Yes, a 9 mm can injure or kill a bear. The bear will die of his injuries, but he will still have enough life left in him to do you in, before he dies. You will not have a side shot if a grizzly bear is charging you, and most likely your 9mm will only inrage him, and make him try his best to kill you.
Would a 9mm stop a bear?
While a rifle would of course be the best choice for hunting a black bear, any weapon that’s a reasonable choice for a deer or hog will do the job just fine. A 9mm from a few feet kills deer. A 9mm from a few feet will also kill a black bear, and if you’re that close, you should have no problem making a head shot.

Can a AK 47 kill a bear?
Yes, you can. There are poachers in a few of the former Soviet states that use AK-47s for bear (and other critters). I personally do not hunt bear. In Africa, poachers using the AK-47 shoot it on automatic, usually dumping the magazine into the poor animal.
