What does it mean when your hamster has one eye closed?
Check your hamster’s eye for foreign objects. One reason your hamster’s eye may be watery or closed is that something is stuck in the eye. If this is the case, there won’t be any crust present holding the eye closed, so you can gently open your hamster’s eye and look. Take your hamster to the vet as soon as possible.
What do I do if my hamster has one eye closed?
If the eye is still sealed shut, then you can try very gently wiping the sticky material. Try two or three very gentle wipes at a time – we all know how painful rubbing around the eye can be. If this doesn’t work then repeat the two-minute soak to dissolve it a little more.
Can 2 hamsters live in one cage?
They can live together – either two of the same sex as a pair and sometimes in same sex groups. Same sex pairs can fall out so it is important to keep an eye out for signs of bullying and have the possibility of separating them if needs be.
Can a hamster kill a hamster?
Depending on the species, hamsters may be cannibalistic because they’re territorial. For example, Syrian hamsters can be aggressive toward other hamsters and, in some cases, they’ll kill and eat the other hamster in the cage. In the wild, the smell of a dead pup would attract predators, something the mother can’t risk.
