What happens if you use the wrong PAG oil?
Just like in an engine, the use of low-grade or incorrect oils results in increased wear, premature failure of the compressor, and loss of the warranty or guarantee. The wrong choice can lead to damage. Vehicle- or manufacturer- specific instructions must be followed carefully.
Can pag 46 be mixed with Pag 150?
PAG 46, PAG 100 and PAG 150 oils all have different viscosities, just as 5W-20, 5W-30 and 10W40 motor oils have different viscosities. You should not intermix different viscosities because the viscosity of the mixture may be “out of range” for the appliction for a number of reasons.
What is pag 46 used for?
Fully synthetic, polyalkylene glycol (PAG)-based oil which is used for the lubrication, sealing and cooling of refrigerant compressors or refrigerant circuits in passenger or commercial vehicle air conditioning systems.
What does pag 46 do?
PAG is actually an acronym for Polyalkylene Glycol, and it is a synthetic oil used in A/C systems to lubricate the compressor. Most all newer model cars use PAG as the lubricant in the A/C system. When people refer to PAG oil they typically refer to it in the following terms: PAG 46, PAG 100, or PAG 150.
When should I add oil to my AC?
You normally do this when recharging the system after replacing one of the major components. This is tricky. The service manual normally tells you how much refrigerant oil should be added with each major component replaced on the AC system. You need to be very careful during this process.
What kind of oil goes in a AC compressor?
The two categories of oils commonly used in the compressors are mineral or synthetic oils. One type of mineral oil (MO) called Naphthenic is commonly used. Synthetic oils such as glycols, esters and alkylbenzenes (AB) have been used in the refrigeration applications for some time without any problem.
How do you know if your car AC compressor needs oil?
Open drain valve on compressor and drain oil into a measuring device that can measure liquid ounces. Compare the liquid ounces of oil drained with the amount of oil required by your vehicle’s AC compressor unit.
