But as a place to begin, it is useful, and the narration of Nietzsche’s life is interesting. I don’t think there is a reliable and genuinely introductory book on Nietzsche in English. If you have some background in philosophy, Chapters 1-4 of my Nietzsche on Morality will introduce you to Nietzsche’s moral philosophy.
Should I read Thus Spoke Zarathustra or beyond good and evil first?
NO. It’s not a good idea. Zarathustra should neither be a first or last book, that is, if you’re reading Nietzsche or philosophy in general. It’s very poetic, and quite full of parables and aphorisms.

If you’re looking for an entertaining novel, it’s most definitely not worth reading. It’s written in a super simple style. The plot, characters, and setting all take a backdrop to the philosophical contents of the novel. Even the philosophy is pretty difficult to grasp if you’re not familiar with Nietzsche’s thoughts.
