The i7-2600 is a great chip (I have one in my workshop rig, see my signature for the build details) and it still holds up very well, but if the tasks you’re doing are very CPU intensive then you’ll want to look into a platform upgrade. If you do upgrade to a 2600 you don’t really have to worry about it dying.
