Currently level 21 in new Vegas and have found that Rex and Veronica are insanely good companions together. A scary amount of my gunfights are won by these two just running up melee range and beating on em. For example, in the Three-Card Bounty they absolutely demolished the fiends.

He’s a hellofa shot and has a mildly useful companion perk. Other than that, he is a moody prick that makes you have to worry about where you take him. I prefer others for perk reasons. They all can pretty much kick most every enemies ass efficiently.
