What are the HIA questions?
The test includes orientation questions, as well as the following:
- What venue are we at today?
- Which half is it now?
- Who scored last in this match?
- What team did you play last?
- Did your team win the last game?
How do you assess a head injury?
The GCS score should be used in the assessment of all patients with head injury by trained healthcare providers. The patient’s best eye, motor and verbal responses are assessed and categorised into mild, moderate and severe head injury. It is a reliable tool to monitor and detect deterioration in such patients.
How do you assess concussions in sport?

Potential complications of a concussion include chronic headaches, memory problems, vertigo, and post-concussion syndrome, which is headaches, dizziness, mood swings, and brain fog that can continue for months or years after a concussion.
What is a sideline concussion test?
Sideline or abbreviated testing is designed to assist with the immediate assessment or screening of sports related concussion (e.g. SIDELINE) and is not meant to replace computerized or comprehensive neuropsychological testing.
How many concussions go unnoticed?
It is estimated that as many as 3.8 million concussions occur in the USA per year during competitive sports and recreational activities; however, as many as 50% of the concussions may go unreported.
Can I have a concussion without symptoms?
Mild or no symptoms does not mean you don’t have a concussion. Some people don’t notice their symptoms immediately. And the symptoms may not be extreme — it’s possible that you’ll only experience a mild headache and moderate fatigue for a few days before getting back to normal, for example.
What should you do after a concussion?
Rest (for 1–2 days after the concussion)

- Avoid all sports and any activities (such as roughhousing with friends, or riding a bike or skateboard) that could lead to another head injury.

What does Doctor do for concussion?
Your doctor will recommend that you physically and mentally rest to recover from a concussion. Relative rest, which includes limiting activities that require thinking and mental concentration, is recommended for the first two days after a concussion.
What part of the brain is affected when you hit the back of your head?
The parts of the brain that are most commonly affected in traumatic brain injury are the frontal and temporal lobes. And part of the reason for that is that they’re up against bone, and it’s fairly rigid and rough bone.
What should you watch after head injury?
Signs of a brain injury after a head injury include:
- unconsciousness – either brief (concussion) or for a longer period of time.
- fits or seizures.
- problems with the senses – such as hearing loss or double vision.
- repeated vomiting.
- blood or clear fluid coming from the ears or nose.
- memory loss (amnesia)
How do you treat a scalp injury?
1. Care for a Minor Scalp Wound
- Wash the area with mild soap and water.
- To stop bleeding, use a sterile cloth and apply pressure for 10 minutes.
- Ice the area for 20 minutes using ice wrapped in a towel or cloth. Ice the area again after an hour to reduce swelling and pain.
