What are the side effects of paragard?
Mild side effects* of Paragard can include:
- anemia (low level of red blood cells)
- back pain.
- painful sex.
- painful periods.
- vaginitis (swelling or infection in your vagina)
- dizziness, nausea, slow heart rate, or seizures after Paragard insertion or removal.

Is my IUD making me sick?
Nausea and mood changes are common side effects to all hormonal IUDs. The high levels of hormones in Mirena can make these symptoms worse. Additionally, hormonal IUDs are associated with an increased risk of ovarian cysts in women.
Can IUD cause upset stomach?

How do you check IUD strings?
When checking your IUD strings, first wash your hands. Then while either sitting or squatting, insert your index or middle finger into your vagina until you touch the cervix, which will feel firm and rubbery, like the tip of your nose. Feel for the IUD string ends that should be coming through your cervix.
Is the ParaGard effective immediately?
The non-hormonal ParaGard is effective as soon as it’s inserted. If it’s put in during your period, hormonal IUDs start working right away. Otherwise, this type may take up to 7 days to be effective.
Can I use a tampon with ParaGard?
Yes. You may use tampons while using Paragard.
Can ParaGard make you gain weight?
Does the copper IUD make you gain weight? Nope! The copper IUD (Paragard) doesn’t cause weight gain. Because the copper IUD is hormone-free, it doesn’t have many side effects at all.
