How do humans affect green sea turtles?
Over the last 200 years, human activities have tipped the scales against the survival of these ancient mariners. Slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin, and shells, sea turtles suffer from poaching and over-exploitation. They also face habitat destruction and accidental capture—known as bycatch—in fishing gear.
Why should we save the sea turtles?
What we do know is that sea turtles—even at diminished population levels—play an important role in ocean ecosystems by maintaining healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs, providing key habitat for other marine life, helping to balance marine food webs and facilitating nutrient cycling from water to land.
Why are straws bad for you?
Drinking through a straw can contribute to lip wrinkles, bloating, cavities, and teeth staining. If you must drink through a straw, consider using a reusable straw to reduce plastic waste. The production and disposal of plastic straws contribute to environmental pollution.
Do straws cause wrinkles?
It seems innocuous, but frequently sipping drinks through a straw can cause wrinkles to form around your mouth. This repetitive muscle motion breaks down the collagen around your mouth, creating permanent creases in your skin, explains dermatologist Debra Jaliman, MD, author of Skin Rules.
Why are straws worse than plastic cups?
Technically, plastic straws are recyclable as they are made of polypropylene. But the problem is the size and shape of the straw – they are made of thin material, slender, could fall into machinery crevices, and cause several operational issues. So, recyclers are hesitant to take them.
Are straws bad for your stomach?
Sipping from a straw introduces air into the digestive tract. This can cause uncomfortable digestive symptoms, such as gas and bloating.
Does drinking a lot of water make your stomach bigger?
When you drink water, it travels down to your stomach. Drinking lots of water can make you feel and look fuller, but it’s quickly absorbed, so water bloat is usually temporary.
Do straws help your teeth?
Drinking through a straw can minimise tooth contact, giving you healthier and happier teeth. Using a straw will also allow you to consume beverages that are known to cause stain with less direct contact on teeth. This will reduce tooth discolouration.
