What is a horn of oil?
The oil in the horn – presumably a ram’s horn – was anointing oil. Samuel was being told to take the anointment, or favor on Saul and move it on to someone more deserving; Saul was no longer worthy of it.
Can I bathe my French horn?
All brass instruments must be given a bath 2-3 times a year. The whole instrument should be immersed in a warm bath of soapy water. Remove all of the slides and valves (for the French horn, only remove slides) before immersing. Dip the valves into the water and swirl without getting the felts wet.
Can you clean a trumpet with dish soap?
Add some lemon-scented dishwashing liquid detergent (about a tablespoon is enough). Gently immerse the trumpet, the slides, the bottom valve caps, and your mouthpiece. Take the trumpet apart and soak it in lukewarm (not hot) soapy water. Soak the valves in soapy water while keeping the felts dry.
How often should a trumpet be cleaned?
You should use a cleaning cloth and wipe water stains off the outside a few times a week. When it comes to the inside of your trumpet, it depends on how much you practice, but a good rule of thumb is that you should wash your trumpet at least once every 6 weeks.
Can I use Vaseline on my trumpet slides?
Oil your valves every time you play, or at least three times per week. Do not oil your valves from the bottom caps. Slide grease keeps slides airtight and maintains smooth movement. Vaseline should never be used because it is corrosive to brass.
Can you use Vaseline on instruments?
As a general rule of thumb, don’t use Vaseline or any other type of petroleum jelly on the tuning slides- they’ll corrode the tubes and can cause seizing of the slides. Only use slide grease that’s created specifically for brass instruments.
How long should I boil my mouthpiece?
Place the mouthpiece in the boiling water for approximately 30 seconds. Remove the mouthpiece from the boiling water using tongs and place in the cold water for 1 to 2 seconds (just so it is cool enough to handle).
