What is lacquer used for?
Lacquer provides the extremely intense gloss finish often used on many Asian-inspired or ultramodern furnishings. It is extremely durable and resistant to damage, however over time it can begin to discolor and become scratched.
Why lacquer coating is done?
A lacquers is used to generate an extremely shiny and glossy finish to a wood surface that is otherwise difficult to obtain via the use of varnishes, shellac or other finishing substances. It is highly durable yet may scratch over time due to excessive contact.
What material is lacquer?
It is a liquid made of shellac dissolved in alcohol that dries to form a very hard, smooth, protective coating on surfaces like wood and metal. Originally made from the sap of a particular tree, it can also be made of synthetic substances.
Is lacquer a durable finish?

Is it better to use lacquer or polyurethane?

How many coats of lacquer do you need?
Typically we apply 2 sealer coats, 6-8 build coats and 2 thinned down final coats. This will produce a finish that can be leveled, rubbed out and buff and leave 4-6 mils of film thickness.
Should I sand between coats of lacquer?
You must scuff-sand each coat to ensure a good bond. Sand too soon and you’ll pull the finish.
How long does lacquer smell last?
You can still smell a slight smell of the lacquer in the house for ~24 hours.
How bad is lacquer for you?
Scar tissue in the affected areas can lead to long-term problems with breathing, swallowing, and digestion. Prolonged exposure to lacquer fumes can cause serious, long-term problems in the lungs and brain.
Is the smell of lacquer harmful?
