Longline fishing, or longlining, is a commercial fishing technique. It uses a long line, called the main line, with baited hooks attached at intervals by means of branch lines called snoods (or gangions).

Though good for catching target fish, longline fisheries involve frequent interactions with other marine animals. Non-target species become hooked on baited lines and suffer injury or even mortality.
