What is research in your own understanding?

Generally, research is the organised and systematic method of finding answers to questions. It is systematic because it is a process broken up into clear steps that lead to conclusions. Research is organised because there is a planned structure or method used to reach the conclusion.

Why is research controlled?

In a controlled study, researchers are able to determine which of their subjects receive the factor that is being tested for having a causal influence upon another factor. Blinding is meant to mitigate placebo effects – possible confounding of the study by the subjects’ or researchers’ knowledge.

Why do we need a control group?

The control group (sometimes called a comparison group) is used in an experiment as a way to ensure that your experiment actually works. It’s a way to make sure that the treatment you are giving is causing the experimental results, and not something outside the experiment.

What are controls in a research study and how are they used?

In a scientific study, a control group is used to establish a cause-and-effect relationship by isolating the effect of an independent variable. Then they compare the results of these groups. Using a control group means that any change in the dependent variable can be attributed to the independent variable.

What is a dependent variable in an experiment?

The dependent variable is the variable that is being measured or tested in an experiment. For example, in a study looking at how tutoring impacts test scores, the dependent variable would be the participants’ test scores, since that is what is being measured.

What is treatment in research?

Treatment. In experiments, a treatment is something that researchers administer to experimental units. For example, if the experimental units were given 5mg, 10mg, 15mg of a medication, those amounts would be three levels of the treatment.

What is statistical tools in thesis?

Statistical methods involved in carrying out a study include planning, designing, collecting data, analysing, drawing meaningful interpretation and reporting of the research findings. An idea of the sample size estimation, power analysis and the statistical errors is given.
