A trained walker can walk a 26.2-mile marathon in eight hours or less, or walk 20 to 30 miles in a day. Steadily building your mileage with training allows you to walk long distances with less risk of injury.

Get out and about: Walk at least 30 km to support young people through their DofE. You can cover your 30km in a week or set your own time frame (whatever challenges you!). We suggest that you walk at least 30km but feel free to walk, run, cycle or swim the distance!

As a minimum you will need 2 pairs, one to wear and a spare pair. However some participants prefer to have a fresh pair of socks for each day of their expedition. Can I bring my mobile phone? Yes – but it should only be used in case of an emergency.
