Who can apply for NYC ID card?
All New Yorkers 10 and older, regardless of immigration status, can apply for an IDNYC card. Requires proof of identity and where you live. Find an enrollment center near you to apply in person. Applicants 14 and older can submit applications online before going to an enrollment center.
Can an immigrant get a NY state ID?
New York offers three types of ID documents; standard licenses and IDs, Real IDs, and Enhanced licenses and IDs. Non citizens are eligible for standard IDs. Non citizens who can provide proof of lawful presence are eligible for Real IDs. However, only US Citizens are eligible for Enhanced IDs.

What can you use Idnyc for?
IDNYC is accepted:
- By City agencies to access many services and programs;
- By NYPD for the purposes of issuing summons or desk appearance tickets instead of arrest;
- For entry into public buildings, like schools;
- For taking the high school equivalency exam in New York City;
How long does it take to receive NYC ID?
Your IDNYC card will be mailed to your home in 10-14 business days. If you do not have an address or have security concerns about an address appearing on your IDNYC card, you will be able to pick up your card at the Enrollment Center where you applied 15 business days later.
