The versions of Pinan that are widely practiced today have originated from the great master Anko Itosu (1831-1915). Master Itosu created the Pinan kata in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Does black belt mean anything?
To people who don’t train in martial arts, having a black belt seems to mean that you are an expert at something. You can take on some extra responsibility because you now are yudansha (black belt, also called dan ranks). To some, the black belt doesn’t really mean anything. It is just another step along a longer path.
Can anyone be a black belt?
No, not everyone can make it. Most people quit before they even get a blue belt, many more of them before they get a purple belt, same with brown belt.
